Last year, I embarked on another journey in medical writing; however, this time it was not in the “Land of the Rising Sun,” but rather in the “Land Overtaken by Mechanical Minds.” Being a medical writer in an agency often means functioning like a robot. Creativity and storytelling tactics are no longer valued. Instead, writers are expected to operate with a purely analytical mindset. You become a human stripped of emotion, relying solely on cold intelligence to succeed.
What people rarely say about medical writing in agencies, and what many fear to acknowledge is that the core issue lies in the devaluation of the art of writing itself. Robots are increasingly perceived as ideal candidates because they lack emotion and operate purely on logic, regenerating data into words that inform but fail to tell a story.
Therefore, as medical writers working in agencies, I believe it is essential to be transparent before our fear of robots replacing humans becomes a reality that haunts the profession indefinitely.
